On Cults and Other Dangerous Groups:

Does the Bible Need to be Updated or Corrected?

If you're one of the many Christians who believe that their faith is based on what the Bible says, then any answer other than NO just doesn't make sense.

Simply put, by saying that the Bible needs correcting, you're explicitly denying that what it currently says is true, and that opens up a big can of worms.

For example, if you can't trust the Scriptures to be truthful as they are now, then why bother correcting them? Wouldn't it make more sense to start over with a completely new set of holy documents? And if you did take that option, then why would you claim to be Christian? Wouldn't that be lumping your group in with a false religion?

On the other hand, if you believe that the Bible will be correct after these changes have been made, then how you can be certain that it's actually correct this time? People have been claiming that the Bible was inerrant for centuries, so they obviously believed it was correct long before now. Did the truth change over time? Can it?

This also creates an issue with God Himself. Throughout the Scriptures, God routinely stopped and corrected His followers when they got something wrong. Sometimes He did this in rather dramatic ways - such as the events recorded in Numbers 16:1-50 - but He always took action.

So why did God wait more than 1,500 years before stepping in this time? Why did He allow generations of people to be preach falsehoods in His Name? And since there are literally millions of people who want to serve Him, why did He only share the corrections with a select few?

And that leads me to the big question that everyone should be asking: Why does the Bible need changed? What is gained by changing the Bible?

Chances are, someone wants to change the Bible rather than allow the Bible to change them. Perhaps they feel something shouldn't be a sin, or maybe they want the Bible to support their politics. Sometimes it's because they don't really want God to be in charge.

Don't be fooled: there's no good reason to alter the Bible, and fewer reasons to follow people who would.
